New Helmet from Arctiva

Available in 4 colorways. The Summit Helmet is an open face, injection molded polycarbonate shell. The dual forehead, chin and rear exhaust vents increases airflow.  The fully removable polyester moisture wicking liner and cheek pads add to the comfort level of the Summit. This helmet is also DOT and ECE Approved and includes a breathbox, chin curtain and vent plug kit but the greatest feature of the Summit Helmet is the built in MIPS Brain Protection System.

MIPS

The MIPS technology was developed in Sweden in 1996 and is scientifically proven to reducerotational motion by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain from angled impacts to the head.

This is How It Works

In a helmet with MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) the shell and the liner are separated by a Low Friction Layer. When a helmet with MIPS Brain Protection System is subjected to an angled impact, the low friction layer allows the helmet to slide relative to the head. The MIPS BPS is designed to add protection in helmets against the rotational motion. The rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces (from angular acceleration) that both affects the brain and increases the risk for minor and severe brain injuries. MIPS BPS has been scientifically proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain.

The Great Misconception

Accident statistics show that many injuries occur due to angled impact to the head. However, in standard helmet tests the helmet is dropped vertically onto a flat surface. The results are helpful for measuring precise vertical impacts, but far inferior for measuring the more realistic scenario of an angled impact. MIPS has been developed for reality and increases protection against angled impacts.

The Arctiva Summit Helmet is loaded with features and safety precautions all for under $150, visit your local Parts Unlimited dealer for more information.

Harris Huizenga: The Start of Something Great

When Harris Huizenga, the high school junior from Bismarck, North Dakota first jumped on a snowbike from his dad’s shop, Full Throttle Motorsports, little did he know it would open up a whole new world. Harris took to the relatively new machine so well he wanted to race them competitively.

2017 became a break out year for Harris, he qualified for the Winter X Games in Aspen where he competed as the youngest competitor but that didn’t keep Harris from having a strong showing with a top 10 finish.

Over on the inaugural AMA Snowbike Championship Series season, Harris showed he can compete with the best the sport has to offer by scoring a 1st place victory in Round 4 at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. How did Harris follow that performance up? With another first place victory the following week in Hill City, Minnesota. Adding some top ten finishes and Harris was in the hunt for the 2017 Championship for the final two rounds. Despite riding hard and being competitive Harris didn’t grab the championship, however that has made him only more hungry for the next season and to continue building on what he learned in 2017.

Finnish Champion Noora Kursu

The 2016-17 racing season in Finland has been one of great success for Arctiva sponsored Noora Kursu. The seventeen year old from Rovaniemi started riding in 2012 and entered her first race in the spring of 2013. Noora jumped on an Arctic Cat for a full race season in 2014-15 on the Women’s Series.

After an offseason of hard gym training Noora came into the 2016-17 season looking at that number 1 spot in the FIM Womens Snowcross World Championship.

The season kicked off in Suomu on January 7th, where Noora quickly established she was going to be a force to be reckoned with on the series in 2017 by grabbing first place and with that she was of and running.

The dominant performance by Noora this season was capped off by another first place victory on April 4th in Levi. That makes nine first place victories this season out of eleven races, add another 2nd place victory on February and you can see why Noora has set herself up to be the one to beat for years to come. Arctiva congratulates Noora Kursu on her 2017 Championship and looks forward to being part of more in the future.

Layering Systems

A great way to ensure not only a comfortable ride but a safe one is to incorporate a layering system into your riding gear. Fortunately for you Arctiva has an entire line for you to accomplish this the next time you hit the trails.

An effective layering system starts with a base layer which wicks moisture (sweat) away from your body. This base layer must be worn directly against the skin. Our Evaporator gear, made from a wicking quick-dry material, is the recommended base layer for the Arctiva layering system. The Arctiva Evaporator Wicking Base Layer provides the breathability you are looking for in this case. Arctiva offers a shirt and a pant in this line.

The second layer in the Arctiva system is the Regulator. Made from a unique blend of polyester/Spandex yarns resulting in an incredibly soft hand. When paired with the Evaporator base layer the combination is ideal for riding in moderate to cold temperatures. The Mid-weight jersey and pant in this line features 4-way stretch fabric for ultimate comfort and a range of movement.

For more extreme temperatures, the Arctiva Insulator series provides the additional warmth required. The Insulator gear is made of a blend of micro polyester fleece/Spandex and combined with Evaporator or Regulator layers, provides extra warmth in extremely cold environments. The mid-weight fleece and pant also provide quick drying and moisture wicking.

We haven’t left out you female riders, we offer a line specifically designed for you as well. Women’s Regulator is the primary base layer for next to skin comfort, warmth, and moisture management. When temps are really low, combine with the mid-weight fleece women’s Insulator jacket and pant for extra warmth and all day comfort.

For more extreme temperatures, the Arctiva Insulator series provides the additional warmth required. The Insulator gear is made of a blend of micro polyester fleece/Spandex and combined with the Regulator layer, provides extra warmth in extremely cold environments. The jacket includes to hand pockets and the pant includes a soft elastic waistband and simple slim bottom hem for comfort.

Protect Your Feet

If you have seen the movie Forrest Gump, you are aware that the number one rule in Lieutenant Dan’s platoon is to protect your feet, we believe in that rule as well when you are out on the trail. For that reason we present our line of Arctiva boots.

Mechanized Arctiva boots are designed to keep feet toasty warm. This boot has a removable liner with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation and moisture wicking lining to keep feet warm and dry. The new ratcheting buckle and straps combined with Speed Lacing, makes boot entry and removal a cinch and the 12 inch height easily accommodates deep snow. A waterproof lower blocks the entry of snow and ice while the highly water repellent nylon upper helps keep water at bay. The grip tread sole provides unsurpassed traction on snowy surfaces and a full length internal EVA midsole provides extra support for all day comfort. The Mechanized Boot is rated to -40° F and are available in Black and Black/Gray.

Comp Arctiva boots feature a removable insulated liner that has a high wicking fleece interior to keep feet warm and dry. At 10 inches tall, they are high enough to keep out snow, yet low enough for aggressive snowmobile riding. Its new micro-adjustable,ratcheting forefoot power strap & fast lacing system holds the heel securely in place while keeping the foot from shifting inside the boot. The grip tread sole provides excellent traction on slippery surfaces. With an EVA mid-sole that provides a secure platform for the foot, the Comp is great for all types of outdoor winter activities. The Comp Boot is rated to -40° F and are available in Black and Black/Orange.

To go inside your Mechanized or Comp boots, Arctiva has two types of socks. The Evaporator Wicking Sock pulls moisture away from the skin to hold in warmth and the Insulator Heavy-Weight Sock includes padded shin inserts for added protection. Both of these are available in youth sizes.
